The Door – Hung Up.

As some may remember, back in January, in our newborn blog days, S. and I did a DIY artistic makeover on a door we found outside our apartment condo dumpster (aka – stained glass transformation of a dirty old dejected french door). Here it is again, hung up.

Not to worry, it is heavy, but it is also hung up sturdily.

S. made sure to screw this three big bolts into the wood beams, to support the weight of the door. (That line is just a pencil mark so they were aligned straight)

The door is solid wood, and S. screwed in these big metal things and attached clamps to the heavy gage wire we picked up from Home Depot. I think it was called airplane gage wire, supports up to 300 pounds.

The wire is quite thick.

Wire, secured and clamped.

At first I was afraid that the door might fall on me in the middle of the night, so I slept upside down, but S. assures me that it is secure. He even consulted the big homeowners manual. Fair enough. I’ve been sleeping without worries for two nights now.

  1. That is so awesome! It looks fantastic.

  2. I’d probably have slept upside down for a night or so myself. The door is a really fantastic piece – glad you repurposed it like this!

  3. That is really impressive. The faith to sleep beneath it is impressive as well.
