Katie Daily Style – Amoeboidly

  • Black dress – thrifted
  • Navy, gold, black and cream silk scarf – thrifted
  • Gold belt – thrifted
  • Blue ballet flats – Old Navy

Is it a total cop-out to claim a black jersey dress as a wardrobe workhorse? Probably, but I’m doing it anyway. When I thrifted this Old Navy dress two years ago, I never imagined just how much I’d wear it. But, it is, in fact, the perfect dress. Right length, right weight, flattering cut, perfect for layering over and under – there’s nothing this dress can’t do (well, I still haven’t gotten it to do the dishes, but these things take time). See how I’ve worn the dress before here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. See, told you I wore it a lot.

P.S. Per Kristin’s description last time I wore a scarf this way, this style is now officially called: Amoeboidly.

  1. I love this dress on you! I’m glad you included it, and I’m excited to have recently acquired a simple black dress that I can imagine wearing just as many ways. Also, I think you may have put some kind of super power over this dress, because given its material and its Old Navy origins, it seems like it would otherwise be impossible for it to continue looking so great after what I imagine is repeated washing.

With that, I must get back to my reading. I am taking a course on the philosophy of experimental science this semester, and one of my main objectives is to learn something which will allow me to leave some kind of genius, insightful comment on one of your scientifically-minded posts! : )

  2. I love! I myself have a black Forever21 Dress that I could wear like every day. Nothing wrong with that!

I also love what you’ve done with the scarf. It looks completely awesome on the black backdrop. It’s like art!

  3. You know, Katie, I don’t think that 8 documented times REALLY counts as being a wardrobe workhorse. Talk to me when you get to a baker’s dozen.*

*Perpetual problem with the internet: sarcasm does not come across well. Please note that the above comment is to be read in a sarcastic tone of voice. See Chandler Bing for reference.

  4. Yay for a fantastically versatile and thrifted black dress! I love how you’ve styled it here!

  5. You’re gorgeous, and you wear scarves like the dickens!

(I won’t even go into my pride at helping coin a term for a hot new scarf-wearing trend that is going to take the clothes-wearing world by storm! I just wouldn’t be able to contain it…) :o )

  6. er, :-) Someday, I’ll learn not to make my smileys my normal way on wordpress blogs, I promise.

  7. Best things ever: black jersey wardrobe, workhorses, awesome scarves, your big smile, the word amoeboidly. You’re hired.
