Last week Rebecca commented that she thought I’d stopped wearing glasses because you almost never see them in my photos. Since I usually take my photos in the morning, and like to walk around like a bleary-eyed bat for as long as possible, it’s usually that I just haven’t put on my glasses yet. However, there’s a little bit of vanity at play, too. I love wearing glasses and do so exclusively, but I think I look better without them. So in trying to capture the best photos of myself, I didn’t omit the glasses on purpose, but neither did I correct their absence.

But I have to ask myself, are photos of a glasses-less Katie really the best photos of myself? They’re pictures of me with an important aesthic piece missing: I wear glasses. And since I don’t see a ton of style blogs out there in which the individuals wear glasses everyday (although when you do you look fabulous), that’s a niche that deserves my participation.

So from now on: Katie in her glasses. Don’t get too excited, there are only two pairs, but they’re both cute!

As for the outfit, a lot of the lovelies participating in the 30 for 30 have been putting sweaters over dresses. My Swiss cheese brain can’t remember who, so I’m just going to say that you all inspired me. Every one of you.

For more glasses goodness:

This was the first video I ever saw on MTV. I was 13 and I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that it felt like it changed my life. Her album Tails is at the top of my desert island list, no question.

  1. You look great, with or without glasses.

I want to tell you how much you’ve blossomed over the past year, how beautiful and confident you’ve become— do I sound like a doting grandma? WELL, SO BE IT.

  2. I’m glad you decided to start wearing your glasses more in photos – it’s an important part of your face! And you look lovely in them to boot.

  3. It’s funny that you should write about this…sometimes I WEAR my glasses for vanity’s sake. I wear no makeup and when the bags are especially bad, the glasses will help to obscure them. And sometimes, when using a flash I’m worried about reflection so I leave them off. And then there is that one pair that automatically darkens in bright sunlight.

I like the large lenses on you!

  4. The glasses are great – and I love the red and purple combo. One of my favs for sure. I wear glasses too, but opt for contacts during the day. Most of my photos are sans glasses :)

  5. I wear my glasses sometimes, and I always include them in my post when I blog that outfit. In general, though, I don’t like wearing them, because I’m not crazy about not having a complete field of clear vision. I also have only one pair, and they kind of don’t go with everything.

Anyway, I think you look superb in glasses, and I’m glad you’re going to start posting them!

  6. Ooh, I love this outfit! It looks so warm, but still so cute (sometimes I end up just looking like a poofy snowman with all my layers, lol). It’s fun seeing a lower belt, with everything (including me!) being so high-waisted lately. :)

  8. Yay! As a fellow glasses wearer I love this. Maybe I should start sporting my specs in my pics too….hmmm…I’ll consider that.

Oh, and I love how you pointed out that the pricetag was still on the belt and how much it was marked down. Isn’t it gratifying to get a killer deal?? :)

  9. You look totally cute in your glasses! I’m primarily a contacts wearer, because it’s typically more practical for work, but when I wear my glasses I keep them on for the outfit post. Actually, sometimes if I manage to take photos early enough in the morning, my glasses will still be on even if I don’t wear them for the day. But then, if I didn’t have my glasses on I would probably walk into a lot of things, and I definitely wouldn’t be able to tell when the camera’s gone off- I’m pretty blind without them. It seems like there’s an upsurge in people wearing glasses purely as an accessory, but I’m excited for you to represent the glasses wearing niche!

  10. gorgeous as always, with glasses, without glasses, naked, dressed, however you are you are always my beauty queen! though, i have to say this outfit strangely reminds me of claire huxtable. not that thats a bad thing! she was a successful lawyer, married to a funny doctor, had kids who were polite (except for rudy, she did go through a rough patch there) and a nice house in the city…. so, uh.. good on you :)
