Millie The Friendly Neighbourhood Atheist

Sarah Von of Yes and Yes (which, incidentally, you should be reading if you aren’t already) has a series called True Story where people write about a particular facet of their lives. I wrote a blurb about my atheism months ago, and thus nearly forgot about it, but if you’re curious about what makes me tick aspiritually, head over and have a read. If you’ve got questions, feel free to comment there or here, or send me an email at the usual blog address — I’d be happy to answer your questions.

  1. I thought that was you when I read that earlier! good answers.

  2. Yay. Good job representing. I am also a member of the “A Team” and I think it is quite possible to have a very compassionate morality without having to believe in a god. If you appreciate the profound fragility and time-boundness of every human life, then there is no question, you should act to make the world a better place.

  3. Hon, your answers were so eloquent and thoughtful – well done!

I once had a very religious friend as me (a moderately religious individual) how I could stand to be friends with atheists. Now is not the time or place for an in-depth discussion of my own beliefs, but I love what you said here:

“I suspect that’s more a testament to the tolerance and acceptance of people that I associate with…” That’s it, exactly. What you believe can absolutely shape who you are, but I care more about who you are than what led you to become that.

    Well done, again, ducky!

  4. That was a great post! You’re so gracious and patient, it was fun to see the discussion starting in the comments. Way to stamp out ignorance, Millie! I couldn’t have handled it.
