Katie Happy – Graduation

Well, folks, he did it! Meet Dr. Rocket Scientist, complete with floppy hat:

The PhD students in Engineering (or Engi-nerding), of which The Rocket Scientist is one, were the first to graduate, so it was ten minutes of excitement followed by two hours of a very numb bum as they matriculated the other 2000 students. Do you know how many different types of engineering people can study? I lost count after seven…

Dr. Rocket Scientist and our good friend Wendy:

Me and the Doc:

It was so cold by then that I’m wearing his suit jacket. But even that wasn’t warm enough, so I ended the evening dressed in Wendy’s regalia:

I got several “Congratulations!” from strangers, and shamelessly accepted them all.

All of the graduation hoopla got me to reminiscing about my own graduations. And since, after all, this post is really about me,* here’s some more photos!

Getting my Master’s Degree. Can you tell how popular a M.S. in Museum & Field Studies is?

Getting my B.S.:

And Sarah, Chelsie and myself in some of our official graduation photos (guest-starring our friend C):

Sadly, Millie wasn’t a part of that photo shoot. So here’s a gratuitous photo of Millie and her love of apples:

*Dr. Rocket Scientist got a PhD and I get this blog post.

  1. Those.. are some hats.

    Gracious.

    Congratulations to him!

  2. Aweee, Guelph! That warms my Canadian (and also Ontario-BA-educated) heart.

And I agree with Claire, those are some hats! Though I guess I can’t say much, because my school also has some hideous red hats for its PhDs. Congratulations to Dr. S!

  3. Bunsen Honeydew went to Guelph! Probably before you were there though…
    Congrats to Dr RS! Yahoo!

  4. CUTE beyond all sense! Happy to the moon!!!

  5. yay, congrats :-)

  6. Yay to Dr. Rocket Scientist! Congratulations! I loved seeing the pictures of your graduations. Your MS shot made me giggle. When I got my MA, I was one of FOUR people in my department – South Asia Regional Studies. And everyone except for me was a double major with another dept: the cool thing is that I got to carry my department flag into the graduation! Again, because I was the only single major AND had written a voluntary honors thesis, to boot.

  7. Congratulations, Dr. Rocket Scientist! Your poor numb bum!

Mr. Jaunty used to sing at graduations, and I used to go along to be supportive… sooooooo boring, soooooo long. I once took knitting along, which helped considerably.

Do I spy a haircut, milady? Chic!

  8. Is that THE e-Shakti dress I see peeking out from underneath Dr. Rocket Scientist’s jacket? All those graduation pictures take me back, and make me wish just a little bit that I were in school instead of being corporate. It’s such an exciting time!

    • Why yes, it is! Things were such a rush before the ceremony that we forgot to take a photo of him and me together, and then by the end I was freezing so the jacket wasn’t coming off. But oh what a splendid dress it is.

  9. Congrats to the new Dr. in town.
I have to admit, the grad pictures of you ladies giggling in the grass will inspire me for weeks. Who knew grad photos could be a group thing?

    • That was a big tradition at our school – group photos outdoors. The photographers even used to carry around a bag of (real) leaves for people to pose in just in case the natural autumnal foliage wasn’t as nice as it could be.
