Katie Daily Style – Native Bee

Why is it that as soon as you wear yellow, people compare you to a bee? Not only does the comment ignore all the daffodils, lemons and Big Birds out there, but it’s also not terribly correct. You see, many bees aren’t yellow. In fact, I’d argue that even if you never wear a single item of yellow clothing, you’re dressing like a bee more often than not.

I blame honey. It’s sweet, it’s delicious, Winnie the Pooh has demonstrated its addictive powers, and it’s no surprise that our attention has gone to the honeybee who hooks us up with the sweet stuff. But the honeybee is just one species, and it’s not even native to North America.

It’s estimated that there are over 4,000 different species of native bees on this continent and they come in every form imaginable: blue, green, red, metallic, striped, and spotted.

Just kidding - this one's a fly.

Truly, bees are some of the most visually diverse insects out there. With my yellow shorts and black/red/purple/gold top, I’m channeling several species at once. So I say embrace your inner bee often. Heck, you’re probably already doing it right now.

Here are some other ways I’ve worn yellow:

  1. Bees. They’re so delightful! And beautiful, too. I like that they’re metallic AND fuzzy. Hard and soft, at the same time.

  2. You look so great! I love that top!

  3. It seems like we have similar coloring (though I think I’m more pink), and you DO pull off yellow! You’re right, maybe I need to find the right shade. I love your latest yellow outfit, especially with all of the red accents. Red & yellow is one of my favorite color combinations (my kitchen is decorated that way!).

  4. Bee-utiful! I love how you can always teach me something that I knew nothing of before.

  5. Oh, I love this post. I referenced bees (apparently mistakenly) in my post too, but next time I’m dressed in green or blue metallic (it could happen) I’ll correctly imply that I’m dressed like a bee.

Love this outfit too – that top is amazing on you.

  6. That’s a really good point! :D Also, I love the colors on your blouse.

  7. Great takes on the yellow. I love your yellow shorts the best. More beautiful and nothing at all like a bee ;)

  15. Love your yellow outfits. This is my first time to be aware that bees are not totally yellow. Stereotypical speaking, many people are aware that bees are yellow, even on nursery schools, the color of the bees are yellow, eh.

    Thanks for the great info,
