Last Friday would have been Jim Henson’s 75th birthday. At his memorial, his fellow Muppeteers performed some of Henson’s favorite songs. Warning: if the very end doesn’t make you tear up, you may be a Cyberman.

Katie’s only knowledge of Dark Shadows comes from a Corner Gas episode, but Johnny Depp’s remake is intriguing.

Fasting for God, or holy anorexia? (be careful: frank discussion of eating disorders)

The short film Planet of the Arabs explores the depiction of Middle Eastern peoples in Hollywood films.

At a recent Lutheran Church rummage sale, Katie caught herself singing “All American Prophet” from The Book of Mormon. It’s really catchy.

Two excellent discussions on Troy Davis and the presence of the death penalty.

Oh, Sweet Jebus. Thank goodness the curse of the Native American cannibals is broken.

  1. You ladies are such groovy link-finders.

Might want to clarify that you mean Book of Mormon: the Musical, lest anyone read the actual, paper Book of Mormon looking for awesome songs. I love the musical. Did you see the Tonys performance of “I Believe”? It’s glorious.

Penelope has a better professional wardrobe than I do. Crud.

‘Femme fatales in video games’ make me so, so uncomfortable. While it now offends me, I used to play Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, I watched the movie, I owned the soundtrack— but this new MK stuff is horrifying.

Hark! A Vagrant makes me happy.

  2. Kate Beaton is going to be at Alternative Press Expo 2011 this weekend! And so will I! I fully plan to review my copy after I stand in a billion-year-long line to get it signed. Lady is mad famous.

  3. So sad and angry for my home town of London ON, but this is why I don’t live there any more.

FYI – the Saudi woman was pardoned by the king. Here’s an interesting analysis from the Guardian.
