The Extend of My Sprechen

Coworker: “So, have you learned German for your trip?”

Me: “A little.”

Coworker: “What do you know how to say?”

Me: “guten Morgen, guten Abend, guten Tag, guten Nacht, bitte, danke, and Haifisch”

Coworker: “Wait, what’s that last one mean?”

Me: “Shark.”

Coworker: “Alright, then.”

  1. Well naturally. I’m sure that will be terribly useful. But then again I know how to say “wedgie” in Italian (literally the pants are in the middle of my bum) and “shut up ugly and get to work” in Portuguese. So I’m not one to talk.

  2. Tschuss is slang for goodbye. :)

  3. I took a quarter of German in college and still remember the occasional phrase, like how to say “I am not Ursula.” It was very helpful in Germany, letting people know that.
